Why do lots of cyclists wear their wedding rings on necklaces?

I’ve noticed this more and more watching professional cycling…a lot of them seem to have their wedding rings on chains about their necks instead of wearing them on their fingers. Sometimes they unzip their jerseys to kiss the ring if they’ve just won a race. Does anyone know why? It must hold some kind of aerodynamic advantage, I guess…or maybe it keeps them from getting lost…?
